Cambridge United FC Futsal made it three successive wins in the FA Futsal National Super League on Sunday with a thrilling 6-5 win over Genesis Futsal Club in an evening kick-off at the University of Cambridge Sports Centre.2 goals each for United youngsters Monty Bouttell and George Harlow together with a goal a piece from Angel Martinez and the returning Alberto Morcillo secured the narrow win and maintained the U’s rich vein of form. Another Us youngster Toby Hardwick captained the side again.

Back from South America, Jose Lima returned in goal for the Us and Alberto Morcillo was restored to the side after serving his one match suspension.

Cambridge dominated the opening exchanges and it wasn’t long before Alberto Morcillo picked out Monty Bouttell who made no mistake with a cute finish. 1-0 to the Us.

Shortly after and a good passage of play saw Angel Martinez pick out Monty Bouttell on the wing whose pass found Alberto Morcillo unmarked at the far post for a simple finish. 2-0 and United were cruising.

Cambridge continued to dominate but couldn’t take their chances whilst Jose Lima repelled any Genesis efforts and United went into half time 2-0 to the good.

United started the second half as they had the first and soon extended their lead. Angel Martinez found George Harlow on the wing who then played a smart one two with that man Alberto Morcillo again and Harlow finished coolly through the Genesis keeper’s legs for his first of the game. 3-0 to the Us.

Genesis responded and got one back with a good strike finally beating Jose Lima from a corner routine.

Cambridge however have of late changed their habit of conceding after scoring to scoring after conceding and that is just what they did with ‘assist king’ Alberto Morcillo this time picking out Monty Bouttell unmarked at the far post for a simple finish and his second of the game. Another ‘perfect futsal goal’ and 4-1 to United half way through the 2nd half.

Cambridge looked to be cruising to a comfortable win but their East London opponents had other ideas. Genesis went fly and scored 2 well worked goals and a slightly fortunate deflection to make it 4-4.

However, United were determined to win and went fly themselves in response. Toby Hardwick found Alberto Morcillo who again had the presence of mind to pick out George Harlow with a clever pass and Harlow made no mistake from close range for his second of the game. 5-4 to the Us.

But this time Genesis struck back with a slightly fortunate goal to make it 5-5 with a minute left.

Cambridge were not to be denied though and Angel Martinez was on hand with a calmly taken solo winner with just 6 seconds left on the clock, to the delight of the home crowd and the despair of the visitors. 6-5 to the Us and that was how it finished with the hosts seeing out the last few seconds.

After a tough start to the season, this third win on the bounce takes Cambridge up to 7th place in the FA Futsal National Super League, level on points with London City in 5th and last weekend’s opponents Manchester in 6th.

With snow forecast this weekend, weather permitting Cambridge will now travel to 8th place varsity rivals Oxford City on Sunday 10th December knowing that another win could take them to 4th in the table.
